Senate Urges President Tinubu to Approve N200 Million Compensation for Slain Delta Toddler

The Nigerian Senate has called on President Bola Tinubu to approve the payment of N200 million as compensation to the family of two-year-old Ivan Omhonrina, who was tragically killed by a stray bullet during a failed operation by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Delta State.

The demand was made on Thursday following the consideration of a petition presented by Senator Neda Imasuen, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.

The tragic incident occurred on July 13, 2023, in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State. Ivan was fatally shot while returning home from school with his family during an NDLEA operation that went awry.

The Senate’s resolution underscores the urgent need for accountability and justice for the Omhonrina family, calling on the President to ensure that the compensation is paid promptly to support the grieving family.

The heartbreaking event has continued to evoke widespread outrage and calls for reform within the country’s law enforcement agencies to prevent future tragedies.
