Only a handful of private universities in Nigeria offer medicine and surgery due to the expensive infrastructure and expertise required.
Federal universities are usually very competitive to get admission and study medicine in, and they also sometimes lack the necessary infrastructure for conducive teaching and learning.

A degree in medicine and surgery is at least seven years, factor in the fact that Asuu has gone on strike a combined 3 years in the last ten years, it might be worth the extra money to just get the certificate from a private university instead of enrolling in a government owned university.
